The legal term for spousal support is maintenance, and is sometimes referred to as alimony.
Spousal Maintenance Calculations
Unlike child support, there are no clear guidelines for setting a spousal support amount. A determination of spousal support is discretionary with the court and takes into account many things including the length of the marriage, the age and health of the parties, the income of the parties and the contributions each spouse has made to the marriage and to the income or earning capacity of the other.
